While small and medium enterprises (SMEs) employ seven out of every 10 employees and make up more than 99% of business in Singapore, studies have shown that conglomerates and multinational companies (MNCs) still outstrip SMEs as employers of choice. With the easily-recognisable brand names, strong organisational culture, higher remuneration and better career prospects, it is not surprising to see SMEs losing out to MNCs in the talent war. The struggle for the best and right talents is also amplified with the tightening of regulations for employment of foreign workers.

To remain competitive and sustain companies' bottom-line and growth, it is crucial for SMEs to attract, engage and retain a quality workforce. What can SMEs do differently to attract and recruit their fair share of talent?
