BCA-Building Careers - Build Knowledge and Jobs

Launched in 2009, the built environment Young Leaders Programme (YLP) is one of BCA's key initiatives to proactively engage and retain young professionals to lead the future growth of the construction sector.

To kick-start the programme, BCA worked closely with leading industry firms to identify a group of young and talented professionals who exude leadership qualities and passion in their work.

Besides engaging Young Leaders in policy formulation and tapping on their experience and passion in BCA's career promotion efforts, the YLP also serves as a platform to facilitate career progression and job satisfaction.

Phan Lay Eng

The vital link in project cost management

As a Project Director with KPK Quantity Surveyors (Singapore), Lay Eng finds her job both challenging and satisfying.

Lay Eng has been provided with many opportunities to work on different types of projects both locally and overseas. At the moment, she oversees the Vietname office of KPK Quantity Surveyors and spends 75% of her time shuttling between Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Danang and Singapore.

She finds that running an operation in Vietnam is undoubtedly a big challenge as the construction industry is at a different stage of maturity as compared to Singapore; she also has to work with local practices and cultural differences as well as varying skill levels of staff.

However, she finds fulfilment in overcoming the odds and achieving clients’ satisfaction of a job well done, providing her with the motivation and zest to excel in future endeavours.
